Company Overview
American Life & Security Corporation, based in Lincoln, Nebraska, is a life insurance and annuity company founded in 1960. It is a smaller provider, holding just 0.034% of market share with almost $850 million in annual premiums.
Commonly referred to as American Life, this company prioritizes convenience and simplicity with a concentrated focus on customer service. Further proof of this came in 2018, when the company expanded to provide cloud-based services via FAST Technologies and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Types of Annuities Offered
American Life offers two fixed index annuities and two multi-year guaranteed annuity products.
Fixed Index Annuities
American Life offers two fixed index annuities: the American Select and the MaxGrowth 10.
- American Select
- The American Select Annuity is a fixed index annuity that benefits from tax-free growth while receiving protection from market downturns. It uses an initial upfront premium with your choice of five market indexes or a fixed index rate. Options include the S&P 500 ESG, Goldman Sachs Xenith, Janus SG Guidance Index: Value Lock, S&P 500 Index and MARC 5% Index or a fixed interest account. There is also the option to change allocations on the contract anniversary.
- MaxGrowth 10
- The MaxGrowth 10 Fixed Index Annuity is designed for those who wish to grow their money for a minimum term of 10 years. There is a choice of a fixed rate, four market indexes or a combination of the two. Either way, the premium grows tax-deferred until a withdrawal is made, with a special 5x5 Annuitization option that skips surrender charges. There is also the option to add a Premium Bonus, which earns interest like your premium.
Multi-Year Guaranteed Annuities (MYGA)
In addition to the fixed annuities American Life offers, there are two multi-year guaranteed annuities (MYGAs) available.
- American Classic
- The American Classic Annuity is a fixed deferred annuity with a multi-year rate guarantee. It carries an initial upfront premium with fixed interest rates and tax-deferred growth. Withdrawals are permitted for required minimum distributions (RMDs), and you can withdraw up to 10% of your funds annually without penalty. A guaranteed death benefit is also included, which saves on surrender charges.
- American Fusion
- The American Fusion annuity is another MYGA available, featuring tax-deferred growth with a fixed interest rate for five years. A bonus interest credit may be available based on the performance of the S&P 500 Index when no RMD withdrawals have been taken. American Life’s guaranteed death benefit is included with a spousal continuation feature that transfers the contract to a spousal beneficiary if the primary policyholder dies.

Evaluating American Life Annuities
American Life retirement planning is worthy of consideration as a highly rated life insurance and annuity provider. It earns high scores for customer satisfaction with hardly any customer complaints, indeed a rarity among annuity companies. It also rates well for financial strength, showing it to be a trustworthy company that can manage its contracts without issue.
Financial products are limited to American Life fixed annuities and MYGAs, with just four options total. However, if its products fit the bill, American Life makes an appealing offer with thoughtful features and additions to enhance the standard annuity.
